No More "Bah Humbug" - Let the Christmas Decorating Begin

{faux garland with mini lime green ornaments and peacock feathers thrown in the mix for something a little unexpected}

The Christmas decorating bug finally hit me. We're not having any big parties or expecting any visits from relatives (besides my in-laws who live down the street from us), so I wasn't planning on doing much as far as decorating goes.

The painting above the fireplace is on loan from the in-laws. It's been in the family for a couple generations and I love that it has an aged look. Thanks to numerous suggestions regarding my oh-so-lovely gas fireplace (ugh), I've decided to get a pretty screen to go in front of it. We'll see how that turns out.

I pulled out some celery green throw pillows that were hiding in a closet (a closet solely devoted to housing throw pillows that are not in use - yes, I have a throw pillow addiction) and added them to the sofa.

Rather than getting a large Christmas tree this year, we decided to do a mini tree (a potted one so we can plant it outside later) decorated with gold, silver and lime green ornaments.

It's just so cute, isn't it? LOL. I found these adorable little houses at Pottery Barn and just had to have them.

I have much more to come!

I love the peacock feathers! What a unique and beautiful touch to your mantle decorations. I can't wait to see what you have next-it's always so lovely.

Have a good evening!

I never would have thought about peacock feathers! That's just too beautiful. I'll be borrowing this idea for next year =)

Your home is just as beautiful decorated for Christmas as I would have predicted! I love your beautiful garland - would have sworn it was real.

Regarding the gas fireplace:
1) You can buy special paint good for surfaces that will heat up and paint out the brass. The plain black surround will look much nicer. I've done it and my neighbor has done it - works great.

2) A gas fireplace can be very useful in a power outage...so maybe not such a bad thing.
