Smitten With This Kitchen

One of my blog crushes, Urban Grace Interiors, posted this beautiful little kitchen the other day and it has me smitten. If you haven't already, check her fabulous post showing some great before and after pics of the space.

I love the fact that they worked with the existing cabinets. It just goes to show you what a good paint color and fabulous hardware can do!

I also love the timeless feel of the kitchen. To me, it doesn't say "I was renovated in 2008".

And I'm in love!

So, this got me thinking of ways I can tweek my little kitchen to make it more special. We haven't touched the space since moving in.

I've decided to go for it and give it a little facelift. Well, maybe more along the lines of some fabulous make-up and jewelry.

I'm borrowing the following ideas from my inspiration kitchen - painting the lower cabinets gray (the walls are already a soft gray/taupe).

Change out the hardware to some fabulous pulls from Restoration Hardware. I'd love to do something different with this pass through, but major renos are out of the question.

Find some new window treatments - currently we have mini blinds that just aren't doing it for me.

Replace the old microwave and tile the backsplash with white subway tile (that I have had sitting in a closet waiting to be installed anyways).

Unfortunately, I'm not going to touch the lighting in this room. It's hideous, but totally functional. Hopefully, nobody looks up when they come over. I'll keep you posted. Off to call the painter!

Ooo I think it's going to be gorgeous. Especially love the cabinet pulls-- I think it will dress the whole kitchen up. Cabinet hardware really is a bit like jewelry isn't it? and are there any pulls at RH that I don't like...? ;). I agree the photos of your inspiration kitchen are timeless, beautiful.

p.s. I gave you a little nod on my blog the other day with a proximity award. Thanks for the help and inspiration you've given me with our (re)building.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw this last week. Amazing transformation! I esp. love that she worked w/ mostly what she had. Raising the cabs never occurred to me when we did ours, but I might just have to add crown molding for a more finished look (like yours has, too).

And I love what you have in store for your kitchen!

This kitchen was designed by Anne Turner Carroll, former assistant decorating editor at Cottage Living and was published in the very last issue of Cottage Living (sigh, you will be missed wonderful magazine). This design was done for her own house, but she also did an amazing living room and dining room renovation for Katherine Cobbs that bestills my beating heart. I (((heart))) her style and design aesthetic!

Oh my. That is a dream kitchen. Sigh. And the ceiling is my favorite, I just adore that planked look. Very chic, but still a little country cottage. My favorite!

Thanks for the sweet blog comment!

I had blogged about this fabulous kitchen when I first saw it! Can't wait to see your changes. Love subway tile. Where did you find your mini topiaries in the window?

I loved that too when I saw it on UGI!

It is an absolutely amazing transformation, and you said it best, it doesn't scream, "I was renovated in '08". So true!

I am dying to see what you do to your kitchen and nursery.
