House Progress - the "Man Room"

So, I wasn't just sitting around watching soap operas and eating bon bons during my blogging hiatus. I managed to get a few rooms completed in our new-ish house between bouts of morning sickness. My first major accomplishment was the den (aka: the "Man Room").

The hubs requested that he have a place that wasn't "precious", a place to kick back and relax without worrying about his wife yelling at him to take his shoes off the coffee table.

He also requested (to my dismay) that the walls be brown. In fact, if I remember correctly, "the color of leather", was his exact request. If it were up to him, the entire room would have been covered in leather. Trying to compromise, I came up with the the popular color Quincy Tan by BM and he ended up loving it.

Most of the furniture are pieces that we've had for some time except for the (sleeper) sofa which is from Mitchell Gold and is slipcovered in (machine washable!) linen. I still have some tweeking to do with those book shelves.

Another new purchase were these olive-colored stone lamps from my favorite little lighting boutique. They were my only splurge in the room and I really love the way they look.

No "Man Room" would be complete without a bar, or in this case an inexpensive wine caddy from Target acting as a bar.

The map on the wall is just one of those inexpensive school room maps cut to fit into some pre-fab frames (from Michaels). It's HUGE but the hubs loves it and that's all that matters.

A BEFORE pic of the room with the previous owners furniture and cranberry wallpaper - not really our taste.

Taking Baby Steps

The nursery is slowly coming along. We painted over the weekend (used BM Aura color: China Blue) and it was exhausting. Who knew that painting a room while pregnant would be so hard? My husband was sweet and offered to do the whole thing himself, but being the perfectionist/control freak that I am, I did all of the cutting in and he rolled.

I decided to splurge on the bedding and went with this fresh style in a lime green from Serena and Lily. I figured we got such fabulous deals on all of the other nursery items so far, I could get away with going all out on the bedding.

This is the mobile I decided upon. It's from Adrift Mobiles and I just love it's simplicity. I didn't really fall in love with any of the more traditional baby mobiles that attach to the crib. Although they are handcrafted from beautiful woods and bamboo, I'm considering painting each piece a different color coordinating with the nursery. We'll have to see.

My next task is to find a glider/rocker. I can't seem to find one that I think is both great looking and comfortable. I'm short, so the many that I've tried are just too big/deep for me. I feel like "Edith/Lily Tomlin"...

We're Having A Boy!

I want to thank everyone for their sweet well wishes during my 1st trimester blogging hiatus. We found out last week that we are having a little (not-so-shy-to-show-his-goods) boy (EDD April 1, 2009) and we couldn't be more excited. So let the nursery decorating begin! Here is what I have to work with so far...

The crib from Belini purchased from a lovely mother of 2 girls selling it on Craig's List for practically nothing. Yaaaay for nice people!

With this navy and white bedding from Pottery Barn Kids.

At a thrift store, I scored a dresser similar in style to this one (but not as tall of course) that will work double duty as a changing table.

I've had this West Elm capiz shell pendant sitting in a closet still in it's original packaging for forever. It might make it's way into the nursery...who knows?

I have a tailored PB roman shade already which I love on the window.

I still need to figure out what paint color to choose for the room. All of the rooms on the second floor (where the nursery is) are variations of white, so a pop of color would be nice. I just can't decide. Any suggestions?

That's all I've got for now...I'll keep you all posted on my progress.
