...The Bad, And The Ugly

Just the other day while on my favorite decor website, Decorpad, a question was posed..."What decor items can you do without?" These were a few of the cringe-worthy interior design faux pas discussed as well as some of my own. (I'm sure I'm about to offend someone with this post)

1. Creepy, juvenile collections like porcelain dolls and Precious Moment figurines in mass quantities

2. Artificial plants (my favorite is when they are dusty or adorned with christmas lights)

3. Plaques stating the obvious

4. "Bordello-Chic" nursery decor

5. Furniture made from animal antlers (this one really makes me want to hurl)

6. The "Kuntry" look

7. (theme-y) Faux finishes
This room has the token fake plants, "Tuscan" theme, AND tacky paint job.

8. Mirrored walls
(I'll bet this room has a fake plant and a collection of porcelain dolls somewhere)

9. Over-the-top "European Elegance"

10. Painted accent walls (faux painting is an added bonus)

I'm guilty of this one (I think I had accent walls in two rooms in a previous house)

So, what decorating faux pas am I forgetting?

LOL, as I'm getting ready to paint my second accent wall :)

Michael, yours isn't *really* an accent's too subtle to be an accent wall. Honestly.

funny post!

i love people for their differences and i admire those who march to their own drum.

but i'll admit, if i hear one more person on a design show say "tuscany" i might just lose my lunch.

OMG! I LOL @ this whole post!

The "Kuntry" look made me pee my pants!

I could probably add a couple of pet peeves to that list. People who over decorate...just don't know when to stop cluttering. I went on a home tour once the homeowner who is a decorator had beautiful things but I couldn't sit down on the sofa because there were so many pillows.
I liked your honest post.

SO TRUE! I cringed at each one of these. High on my list of "fugly": that Kuntry look and the over-the-top Tuscany/European look.

I thought that I was the only one that didn't like precious moments.

Great post! I especially like picture #7. It looks like the inside of a Macaroni Grill Restaurant.

Awesome list! I have so many of the same pet peeves. The "European Elegance" room looks like it belongs to Carmela Soprano.

Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog! I'm glad you finally left a comment because I'm not sure I would have found your wonderful blog otherwise. I love it! Keep up the great work!
